If you are planning to enrol for further education in a New Zealand educational institution, you should consider taking one of our academic courses.  We recommend that if you want academic study, you should start your course with a period of General English.
Course content for all courses includes:

  • Simulated test practice
  • Vocabulary extension
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Speed Reading
  • Test-Specific Grammar Review
  • Error Correction Tasks and Idiomatic Language

International textbooks are used, as well as interesting and relevant material prepared daily by your teacher.

All courses lead to internationally-recognised English language qualifications.

+ 4 hours supervised self study, per week
+ Homework and assignments as determined by your teacher

Who is this course for?
CLCA's High School Preparation course prepares International Students for entry into a New Zealand Private or Public (State-owned) High School.

CLCA offers a protective environment where students can become accustomed to a new culture and build confidence before moving on to a New Zealand High School. The NZ high school system is explained, so that students know what to expect. The course focuses on developing the language and cultural survival skills necessary for academic and social success at high school.

Tutors for this programme are fully qualified TESOL teachers. They are also experienced High School teachers who have a range of specialist subjects.

How will this course help you?
The high school preparation course will help you learn the following skills:

  • Academic reading and writing (including report writing)
  • Speaking / giving presentations
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary
  • Special vocabulary for subjects such as mathematics, science, art, geography and history
  • Project research skills
  • Study skills
  • Learn about life in a New Zealand high school and gain an understanding of the high school systems

Assessment
Student progress is assessed regularly and copies of assessments are sent to parents and future high schools.

High School Placement Service
CLCA is able to arrange placement into both private and public (state owned) high schools. This service is available for all CLCA students who wish to enter a New Zealand high school after studying in our High School Preparation course.
